ELECTION PREPAREDNESS COMMITTEE UPDATE
ADVICE TO NMJ MEMBERS ON PREPARATIONS FOR THE NATIONAL ELECTIONS
Assalaamu ‘alaykum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
All members of the Jamat are advised to carefully read and follow the below advice from the NMJ Election Preparedness Team for the forthcoming national elections scheduled for Tuesday, 9th August 2022.
Our government has assured members of the public that throughout the election period, it will provide adequate security in all parts of the country, so we need not live in fear or state of panic. However, as a contingency measure, we also need to make some of our own preparations at household levels. Below are some tips on preparations which should be made by every household:
1. Please ensure you have enough CASH to last for one month in small denominations. If able, keep handy some foreign currency as well.
2. Do not create panic in your family and REASSURE your family members.
3. Please make sure you keep the following documents in a safe place and within easy reach:
• Valid Passports.
• Insurance Policies – if your vehicles are not comprehensively insured then you
are advised to get them comprehensively insured, including coverage for riots
and political violence.
• Family Records like Birth Certificates, Marriage Certificates, Title Deeds, ATM
Cards, etc preferably in one easy to carry bag.
4. If you are not signed up for Mpesa, then it is advisable to do so.
5. Make sure your vehicles are fully serviced and with full fuel, spare wheel and tool box.
6. Make sure your gas cylinder is adequately filled and you also have sufficient quantity of kerosene and charcoal in your house.
7. You should keep adequate quantity of drinking water.
8. Ensure you have enough food at home which can be stored without refrigeration.
9. Purchase and keep in the house enough of the following items: • Maize Flour / Pasta / Rice / Canned Soup / Beans
• Vegetables and Meat
• Long Life Milk
• Juices, Sugar, Salt
• Soap / Toothpaste / Tissue Rolls
• Cooking Oil
• Candles / Matchboxes / Torches and Batteries
• If you have infants in the house, then Baby Food and Nappies
• This list is not exhaustive – you will have to determine what else you may need
in case you are confined to your house longer than expected.
10.Make sure you have a First Aid Kit in the house, and those with chronic disease are advised to be sufficiently stocked with their medications.
11.Know Your Zones.
• The Committee has created 16 zones covering all areas inhabited by Jamat
households. Zonal Leaders have been appointed for each of the 16 Zones. Your Zonal Leaders may have contacted you by now. It is important you have contacts of your Zonal Leaders. If any household has not been contacted by its Zonal Leaders by Monday 1st August, then please call any of the following committee members:

12.You should stay alert, but avoid taking unnecessary risks.
13.If during this period, you come across any factual information which touches on security, or if you get involved in any emergency yourself, please immediately relay the information to your Zonal Leaders who will further escalate it to the Core Committee.
14.Only voters are advised to go out on the voting day. It is preferable to go in groups with neighbours/friends and stick together until you get back home.
15.Avoid large crowds and do not wear any party colours or symbols.
16.Check your voter registration status through verify@iebc.or.ke or SMS your ID/ Passport No. to 70000 or online https://verify.iebc.or.ke/ .

17.Carry your National ID Cards with you at all times.

19.MAKE DU’A
• Teach your children how to make dua for peace and safety and encourage them
to repeat often.
• Request the Imams in our Masaajid to make special dua after prayers.
AND FINALLY, YOU ALSO ALLOCATE YOUR OWN TIME TO KEEP PRAYING FOR OUR COUNTRY TO PEACEFULLY GO THROUGH THIS ELECTION PERIOD AND FOR STABILITY TO PREVAIL AT ALL TIMES.
